Easy Microwave Roasted Makhanas (Foxnuts)- yummy

  • 3 cups Makhanas (foxnuts)
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp. chat masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp. oil

 

Mix the Makhanas, oil and spices together , so that all Makhanas are lightly coated.
Place them in a single layer on glass baking dish.
Microwave on high for 1 minute
Microwave on high another 1 minute
You will hear popping sound at this stage, if not stir again and microwave for another 30 seconds.
Remove the tray from microwave.
Let it cool for 10 minutes before eating. Your crispy roasted Makhanas are ready to eat.

 

(PS: You can experiment with various masalas, I personally love using butter and red chilly for flavouring)

Easy Microwave Lentils ( Dal )

  • 1 cup Dal
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/3 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
  • 1 tsp finely chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander

 

Method

  1.  Soak the dal in water for at least 1hrs.
  2.  In a microwave safe bowl add dal, water, salt and turmeric and keep it in microwave for 100% for 15-20 min.
  3. While the dal is still in microwave , put 1 tbsp of butter in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds
  4. Add the cumin seeds and onions, mix well and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  5. Add the tomatoes, green chillies, ginger, garlic, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  6. Add the boiled dal and the remaining 1 tbsp of butter, mix well and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
  7. Serve hot garnished with coriander.

 

Single Girls Guide to Handling Unwelcome Attention

In our country single women living alone, especially single women above a certain age are considered “easy” by men. The so called eve – teasing on roads, the leery colleagues & over-friendly neighbour may turn to stalkers if not handled.

These are some general tips to manage unwanted attention during various situations but girls do not hesitate to talk to others if you are in any such situation. It may help to stop you from becoming a victim of crime against women.

  1. On the street:
  1. Wolf Calls: Ignore it. It’s tempting to say something back but if you talk to him you’re giving him exactly what he wants: your attention.
  2. Touching in buses and public transport:  Keep your elbow bent to accidently hurt anyone who touches you accidently. If it doesn’t stop ask him to maintain distance in a loud voice.
  3. Staring : Do avoid direct eye contact with the person staring at you. This may be considered by the “ogler” as sign of welcome.  Do not adjust your clothes or look uncomfortable.

Some other tips for the streets

  • Always carry pepper spray or a sharp object with you.  These should be within easy reach.
  • Learn basic self-defence
  • Your nails , heels , keys , bag etc can all be used to hurt
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • Walk tall & be confident
  • A pretend mobile call giving the number of auto, bus & expected arrival time can also help you.

    •  Be direct and say “no”, you can always you the excuse that you do fraternize with colleagues.
    • Note down all such incidents which made you uncomfortable with dates.
    • Keep your boss/ HR informed.
  3. The colleague who doesn’t say anything but hangs around your desk:
    • Ignore any kind of attention from them
    • Do not use them or take their help for anything : it can be misinterpreted
    • Get a colleague to report to their managers that the person is shirking their assigned duty and loitering, creating demotivation for working members.
  4. Boss / Senior management professional :
    • Be direct & to the point in all your interactions
    • Ignore any kind of special attention / do not take any favours
    • Give indirect hint of fake relationships
    • Inappropriate jokes / comments :

i.      Being firm yet polite inform that you do not appreciate the joke / comments

ii.      Note down any incidents with descriptions and dates

iii.      If needed use a voice / camera recorder to record evidence

  • Dress appropriately: Follow your office dress code, dress professional, with appropriate makeup.
  • Act professional with no nonsense attitude
  • Constant giggling, adjusting you dupatta , or  neckline of your kurta/ shirt when you are uncomfortable may all be taken as promiscuity
  1. On your own time:
  • If a guy asks you out and you’re just not interested:  be firm but clear of your lack of interest
  • If he persists – be direct. Their feelings may be hurt for a bit, sure, but they’re hurting you by repeatedly bugging you.
  • Unwelcome touches at a party:
    •  Get up and walk away, grab a friend — whatever will help you feel okay.

Or

    • If you want to confront: directly call attention to the act, without being embarrassed.  It’s he who should be embarrassed by what he’s doing, not you.
  • Unwelcome advances from neighbour / security : Keep you society’s chairperson , elderly , trustworthy ladies & other responsible families informed.

 

Do not be scared / embarrassed about letting your parents and friends know about the situation and if required, you must also seek police assistance. Many a time, girls have lost their lives or have been brutally raped, injured or kidnapped by stalkers and boys who could not take the rejection.

STAY SAFE.

Easy Microwave Radish Chips ( mooli ke chips ) – yummy

  • Radishes thinly sliced – ( 1/8th inch slices ) – around 30 slices
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • generous pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp

In a bowl mix the oil and spices , add radish slices. Mix well to ensure all slices are coated evenly with the mixture.

Arrange as many slices as will fit in a single layer on a microwave plate lined with  paper towels. The slices should not touch or else they stick together.

Microwave the slices at 100% power for 2 minutes. Flip them over and microwave at 50% power for another 1 minutes. Remove any chips that are starting to crisp and brown. Continue cooking the remaining chips at 50% power in 1 minute intervals until they are all crispy and golden

Enjoy delicious Radish chips.

Like any girl I too suffer from vanity , and when your parents are hunting for a groom for you ( the hunt can be quite literal at time – but that’s for another entry) , they expect you to take care of yourself… After all the guys don’t want an intelligent nerd as wife…so out come the old home remedies…

Decided to share some related to eye care with you here…Enjoy…

  • For thick lashes – If you have thin eye lashes then use equal proportion of glycerin and castor oil regularly. This will make your eyelashes grow thicker. (You can try for eyebrows too )
  • For puffy eyes – Massage a drop of castor oil on to them ( helps with under eye wrinkles too) or use cucumber slices or use cotton pads dipped in unboiled milk.
  • For dark circles – Take a Vitamin E capsule and carefully pierce it with a pin or needle. Dab a bit of the oil on your fingertip and pat it into the skin under your eyes or Take a used tea bag (black, green or white), after it has cooled, and apply it to the skin under your eyes or take equal amounts of almond oill & honey and apply it each night before going to bed ( helps with under eye wrinkles too) or apply a paste of lemon juice, tomato puree, orange lentil flour (masoor dal ) and turmeric powder on under eye dark circles. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off or Prepare a paste of pineapple juice and turmeric ,apply it on the under eye area.
  • For crows feet – An effective remedy is an anti-hemmeroids aka piles cream or use papatya pulp or use egg white

– Take half a banana and mash it with the fork. Add 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of flour and starch, 2 teaspoons of olive or peach oil. Put the mixture on your face for 10-15 minutes, and then wash it off with warm water. It is suitable for dry skin.

Skin care masks
Banana masks can help you to remove greasy luster and reduce the size of your pores.

– Mash one small ripe banana with a fork and mix with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture at your face for 15-20 minutes. Then wash it off with cool water.

– Mash a half a banana with a fork, add 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and pour the oil from one capsule of vitamin A. Apply on your face for 20 minutes. Then wash the mask off with warm water.

– Whip 1 egg white with a fork. Mash 1 banana and mix it . Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and some drops of walnut or peach oil. Apply on your face for 20 minutes. Then wash the mask off with warm water.

– For Acne – Mash 2 bananas with a tablespoon of milk, a pinch of nutmeg, a tablespoon of oatmeal and apply it on a clean face. Wash it after dry.

Banana Bath

Make a banana mash of 1-2 kg of ripe bananas. Add 3-4 tablespoons of almond oil into derived pulp. Add a few drops of any essential oil of your choice. Massage the above mixture on your skin & leave for 30 minutes , gently rub the skin & wash off the mixture. After such nourishment your skin becomes soft and smooth.

Banana for hands and legs

– Mash a banana, add 2 tablespoons of milk; mix the pulp and put it on your hands/legs, wrap them in plastic layer or put on rubber gloves and extra woolen mittens above rubber gloves. Wash it off with cool water in an hour.

– -Mash 1 small banana with a fork; add 4 tablespoons of cream or yogurt, 1 tablespoon of natural honey and 1 tablespoon of oatmeal. Mix all properly. Spread it on your hands and legs, wrap them in plastic layer, if possible take heat treatment. Wash it off with cool water in an hour.
